Project Rider: New C# IDE from JetBrains

Introduction to Project Rider


JetBrains announced a brand new cross platform C# IDE, that runs on Windows, Linux and Mac. It is good news for Non windows developers because Visual Studio full version IDE is only for Windows. Microsoft also introduced their lightweight cross platform IDE called Visual Studio Code on last year. But it has only limited features now. Xamarin also has a cross-platform C# IDE, called Xamarin Studio, but that focus on mobile development.

Project Rider

Project Rider is based on the IntelliJ Platform and using ReSharper technology. ReSharper is a Visual Studio extension, but Project Rider is a standalone IDE. A private preview is expected towards the end of February 2016. Price and licensing details have not yet been announced.
